  9.  AB    OBJECTIVE: to investigate the social and cultural aspectos of HIV+
  10.        women. MATERIAL AND METHODS: the 30 HIV+ women who have care at a public
  11.        hospital--Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre, general hospital,
  12.        reference of HIV infected patients in the south of Brazil. The data
  13.        presented relays in ethnographic research. RESULTS: We point out the
  14.        relationship between the patients household composition and the
  15.        psychological and pragmatic support provided to them. We demonstrate the
  16.        contradiction between the mandatory restriction to breastfeeding and the
  17.        importance of breast milk to the infants' health and the social
  18.        evaluation of the mothers. DISCUSSION: the necessary emphasis on
  19.        prevention required to AIDS gets in confrontation with existing notion
  20.        of disease. To assintomatic women who are in the puerperium this
  21.        restriction is seen as the first symptom of the disease.
